Autumn Heil, a Gorham Village School third grader, submitted the winning design proposal for last year’s Countdown Device for New Year Gorham. Autumn’s compass was designed for us to–Take a New Direction in 2010 and it highlighted the countdown and fireworks display that welcomed in the new year.

What is New Year Gorham and where are the venues?

Since 2008, this community-wide event has welcomed the New Year with a celebration of he performing arts staged in a variety of venues throughout the town of Gorham, Maine.

How will all this happen?

Volunteers, with the cooperation of the Town of Gorham’s public safety, fire, public works and recreation departments, coordinate this community-wide event. Churches and other public buildings serve as various venues where performances are scheduled throughout the evening. They offer a variety of entertainment, which is presented for families and people of all ages to enjoy.

The New Year rings in with an exciting celebration at midnight culminating with a fireworks display accompanied by music, dancing and lots of Auld Lang Syne.
